Michael Franti and Spearhead, Ozomatli entertain a packed house at Hollywood Bowl
Hollywood, CA - It was standing room only, the aisles were filled with dancing fans getting their groove on. Michael Franti and Spearhead had a great performance with high energy and great crowd participation. His social-political threads stitched though the harmonies and melodies were moving, real, and inspiring. Particularly moving was the song inspired by his son's leaving during a recent visit that illustrated a father's love for his son — drawing parallels to God's love for us. As his set ended, he greeted fans in the front row and ended up jumping down into the pit to give those further back some love as well (hugs and high fives).
Then Ozomatli took the stage, in full carnival fashion, with dancers on stilts, a parade of Ozo-heads (huge balloon-headed Ozo figures), a Chinese-style parade dragon, break dancers, and even the Crenshaw High cheer squad. The show was flat out amazing! Ozo brought it, to the fullest. There was a surprise guest from the original Ozo, Jurasic Fives' Chali 2na who brought his unique flavor of hip-hop stylings to the stage. Ozo entertained and engaged every sense, moving your very soul to participate in the festivities and dance. If you get the chance to catch these guys, do it. You will not be disappointed, even if it is not your usual bag. I guarantee you will be a fan by the time the show is over.

This was such a good show...probably the best Ozo show I've seen (and, I've seen quite a few). All the bands were excellent. Hollywood Bowl is a sublime venue.
