Hendrix Experience Drummer, Mitch Mitchell, Passed Away Wednesday, He Was 61.
Portland, OR. — Mitch Mitchell, 61, passed away in his hotel room in Portland early Wednesday morning. He had recently just wrapped the west coast leg of the Hendrix Experience Tour that concluded on Friday. He was a integral part of forming the Hendrix sound on albums "Are You Experienced?", "Axis: Bold as Love", and "Electric Ladyland".
He was a pioneer on the drums as Jimi was to the guitar. I had the pleasure of meeting him last fall in New York and what an incredible guy he was. Considering the laundry list of rock legends he has played with, such as Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Muddy Waters, John Lennon, he was very down to earth and humble. He had a very joyful spirit that would warm your heart. He will be greatly missed.
So, to celebrate his life, crank up some of his best music today in the car on the way to and from work or at home with a glass of wine, but celebrate the great music he helped create that has enriched our lives and inspired and influenced many.
Rock on, Mitch! You will not be forgotten.

It goes far toward making a man faithful to let him understand that you think him so; and he who does but suspect I will deceive him gives me a sort of right to do it.
