FIRST IMPRESSION an Album Review: Sounds of the Universe by Depeche Mode
Here is the first impression of DM's new album Sounds of the Universe. Please post up your comments, very intersted in what your thoughts are. Cheers.

1) Fragile Tension
Devo — Freedom of Choice comes to mind, Space Invaders, tether ball and maybe some Steve Stevens guitar thrown into a blender and mixed on medium, poured into a glass, enjoyed best threw a straw
2) Miles Away / The Truth Is
A great blend of the ever present guitar riff, Dave Gahan's classic vocal rasp, and the digital synth with a hook that will stay in your head for awhile.
3) Corrupt
Prodigy just dropped some Valium or ludes, listened to New Order and then went to the studio and Corrupt is what came out. This song defines DM as Depressed Mode, a darker feel, edgy yet a polished produced mix. Stay on for a hidden :30 instrumental at the end.
4) In Chains (Minilogue's Earth Remix)
Waiting in line at Space Mountain — techno/trance happy earth day blend. "Go green, you know what I mean ..." The Crystal Method inspired track, a Local Spacial Dance song.
5) Wrong (Trentemoller Remix Edit)
6) In Chains
is it a keyboard with a guitar sound effect or a guitar with a keyboard sound effect? me likey this one
7) In Sympathy
was part of that same Prodigy session mentioned earlier . . .
8) Peace
I broke out in Mark Mothersbaugh lyrics "its a beautiful world we live in, a sweet romantic place, beautiful people everywhere, the way the comb their hair, make me want to say, it's a beautiful world . . ." did he help produce this one?
9) Little Soul (Thomas Fehlmann Flowing Ambient Remix)
Zen New Age Meditation Music with a hint of DM, this would be great for an acupuncture session
10) Spacewalker
It makes it nice when performing to only have to worry about if the sequencer is working and moving around to the beat . . .or lack of it — or turn the house lights down, walk off the stage and get a much needed drink
11) Hole to Feed
This one starts out like a game of defender then immediately transitions into something like a cross of Pink Floyd meets David Bowie on a date with Billy Corgan. Nice bell to conclude it.
12) Come Back
Too much synth - would never imagined saying that for DM, their primary sound and instrument is a synthesizer, the lyrics seem to disconnect from the music, where you could take the vocal track and lay it over something else for a better song
13) Jezebel (Six Toes Remix)
deferring review to track 15
14) Little Soul
This would have been a perfect theme song for Coraline 3D. I think that is Tim Burton on the phone, he said something about wanting to use this in the next episode of Stainboy.
15) Jezebel
Musically sounds similar to Personal Jesus, maybe Jezebel is just that (could be your problem). I think Barry Manilow collaborated on this one . . . no wait, it was Wayne Newton, err . . . mmm . . . or could it be . . . no pretty sure it was Manilow.
16) Perfect
This is more the DM we have come to know and love . . . it is well . . . for DM, perfect.

A mix of contrast and signature DM. Vet "Black celebrationish", loved Jezebel.
