ARTS
The creativity that defines Bumbershoot merely begins with musical acts and comic offerings. Bumbershoot stands alone for its continued legacy (of nearly 40 years!) of presenting arts of all disicplines, in and about Seattle Center's resident theaters, lawns, fountains, and exhibit halls.
Bumbershoot’s 2009 lineup features Pacific Northwest Ballet; a special presentation by PS122, New York’s world-renowned presenter of experimental and alternative performance; the 1 Reel Film Festival: a weekend-long series of film shorts curated by Seattle International Film Festival; The Goldberg Variations; and a one-of-a-kind literary program including groundbreaking Young Adult novelist S.E. Hinton, David Cross (with his new book I Drink For A Reason), a poetry reading curated by Spencer Moody (of Murder City Devils), Youth Speaks Seattle (featuring Staceyann Chin and Prometheus Brown (Geo of Blue Scholars)) and chefs-cum-authors Kathleen Flinn (The Sharper Your Knife, The Less You Cry) and Tom Douglas, among others.
The Festival’s acclaimed arts programming ranges from groundbreaking work set in visual art galleries to site-specific artistry that goes beyond the gallery walls and breaks the bounds of imagination. Over Labor Day weekend, Bumbershoot is host to Wise Fool New Mexico’s Flexion on Seattle Center’s Fountain Lawn. Set on an elegant free standing aerial rig, Wise Fool offers a tremendous display of aerial stilt movement: hanging, falling and flying on the cutting edge of humanity and grace.
Complete details of Bumbershoot’s Arts Program will be announced in the coming weeks.
