REVIEW & AUDIO: JOHN MAYER @ STAPLES CENTER LOS ANGELES 3-25-2010

Los Angeles, CA - Whether your a fan or not and whatever your take is on his personal life one thing is certain - he puts on a great show.  After this show I was thinking that if Jimi Hendrix and SRV had a love child it would have been John Mayer.  John delivers a face-melting show that leaves you completely and musically satisfied.  That is not coming from a man-crush talking or a crazed fan that is drinking the Mayer koolaid.  Even if your not a fan of the new album or if your girl drug you to the show, it was one you didn't want to miss.  It was like Hendrix at Monterey Pop or SRV at Montreux.

It was sonic ride that gave the rhythmless rhythm, it gave the beatless beat, and the grooveless groove.

Steve Jordan's drum solo was mesmerizing.  He went on for what seemed like a half hour - not a selfish indulgence of soloing - more like a rhythmic serving of crowd indulgence with a second and third helping. The highlight of which was Steve busting the head on the snare and without missing a beat or interrupting the groove he so masterfully crafted - a new snare was delivered in a flash - and the craft of the groove was artistically stitched seamlessly back together with deafening cheers from the crowd.  This guy is a true master and living legend without a doubt.

David Ryan Harris vocal intro for Sow Dancing in a Burning Room was equally as soul stirring.  His range and control incited roars from the crowd.

John's guitar solo during Assassin simply put - face melting.

John's solo during Gravity was nothing short of historic that concluded with the guitar on the floor and him lighting it on fire - figuratively - with the smoke pouring from the fretboard due to the speed of his fingers.  It was awesome.
