BEST MUSIC LIVE'S TOP 10 REASONS TO HEAD TO COACHELLA THIS WEEKEND

Los Angeles, CA - April 10, 2010 - With only 6 days left 'til of one of the biggest music festivals you may be contemplating if you can afford to attend this year or not.  Tickets for the 3 day music and art extravaganza are $269, and in food and drink, and hotel if your not camping, and it can add up.  However, Coachella has typically had historical shows of epic proportions - like Beck, Tool, and Rage Against the Machine (1999), or Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Beastie Boys, Iggy Pop, and the Stooges (2002), or Radiohead, The Cure, and Kraftwerk (2004), or Prince, Roger Waters, and Jack Johnson (2008).  This year will be no different - and here are 10 reasons why you should make the investment for your musical enrichment:

  1. The  obvious - great headliners
The headliners include Jay-Z, who for the first time in the US played a festival last summer at All Points West to replace the vacancy left by the Beastie Boys.  And let me tell you from being there and seeing that show was beyond expectations.  He opened with Beastie Boy's song "No Sleep 'Til Brooklyn" in honor of them (having to cancel due to Adam's illness).  He went to cover later in his set Jackson 5's "I Want You Back" as a tribute to Michael who recently passing away just 2 moths earlier. In Addition, MUSE and the Gorillaz headlining the subsequent days.
  2. Public Image Limited - This will be a historic event since it has been over 18 years since they have played a set in the U.S.  Not to mention that despite their differences, Johnny Rotten will sure to pay tribute to the recently diseased Malcom McLaren is some fashion.
  3. Them Crooked Vultures - if seeing Dave Grohl, Josh Homme, and John Paul Jones playing live together in this super group isn't enough reason I don't know what is.
  4. Thom York / Atoms For Peace - another super group consisting of members from Radiohead, REM, and Red Hot Chili Peppers (Flea on Bass) which played a brief tour in the late fall '09 and again from first hand experience (The Orpheum Theater - Los Angeles) these guys take the music to a whole new level.
  5. A great collection of 80's bands - the Specials, Echo and the Bunnymen, DEVO, Gary Numan, De La Soul - the recently reunite Echo and the Bunnymen are back and sound great.  They have a new release out, The Fountain, which they are on a supporting tour for.  DEVO, also recently reunited and played 2 shows at the Fonda Music Box which showcased a full album each night in its entirety (We Are Not Men: We Are DEVO & Freedom Of Choice) their eclectic ahead of their time sound is just as relevant now as it was then.  Gary Numan also appeared as a special guest on the Wave Goodbye Tour NIN shows (of note the final shows in Los Angeles) where he performed "Day in the Park", "Metal", and "Cars".
  6. Faith No More - who announced early last year their getting back together and performed their first show in 11 years at the Brixton Academy, London to kick off their "Second Coming Tour".  This will be the first show they have played in the US since that time (approx. 12 years).
  7. Record Store Day 4/18/10 - What is record store day you ask? Well I'll tell ya. It is the annual event in salutation of the independent music store.  This year Record Store Day is set to feature a number of exciting new products made especially for the event from such well-known artists as Radiohead, Wilco, Tom Waits and Lucinda Williams and the Flight of the Conchords, just to name a few.
  8. The ART - Many people make the annual trek for the music and rightly so - it is epic - yet many forget all the great art work that is on display in the form of paintings, sculpture, and interactive experience pieces, not to mention the global and social awareness issues addressed in many of these thought provoking works.
  9. CHARITY - That is right - by simply going to the event and having a good time you will also be making a difference for the Indio Youth Task Force.  Who are they? They are a group who pledge to work toward establishing a community of productive & responsible young people. In order to accomplish this goal, they are dedicated to total community collaboration and involvement in order to create and maintain positive opportunities and direction for and with the Indio youth.
Silverlake Conservatory of Music Located in Los Angeles, California, the Silverlake Conservatory of Music is a non-profit organization offering children, whose families may otherwise not be able to afford to, access to free instruments and lessons from exceptional teachers.
  10. And number 10 - For YOU - to get away, enjoy some great music with longtime friends, make some new friends, and unplug from the matrix, escape the maze of the rat race if just for a few days to relax, recreate, and rock!
Hope to see you there . . . hope you got your tickets!
